JEE Advanced 2016 Counselling

JoSAA – Joint Seat Allocation Authority

JoSAA is a collaborated effort of JAB and CSAB to provide an impartial online counselling platform to JEE Main and JEE Advanced aspirants.

The JoSAA counselling 2016 will entirely be conducted in online mode, only after the issuance of the JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2016 result.

 Eligibility Criteria

Though all the JEE entrants may apply for the counselling but admission in IITs and ISM-Dhanbad will only be granted to JEE Advanced qualifiers. However, these qualifiers will have to fulfil the conditions below:

  • Candidate must have secure acceptable rank in JEE Advanced 2016.
  • The candidate either should have secure an aggregate of 75% (70% for SC, ST or PwD) in the qualifying exam or should have secured position among top 20 percentile successful toppers.
  • Candidates should note that for the criterion above the aggregate marks only in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Language (Language paper in which candidates has secured higher marks) will be considered. If any of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Language are not evaluated in the final year (e.g., in a 3-year diploma course) then the marks of that subject, in the previous year, will be considered to check the percentile and the percentage.

Note: Candidates must note that the criterion above is applicable for the candidates, including the foreign nationals.

JEE Advanced 2016 Counselling Procedure

The counselling of JEE Advanced 2016 will be held in online mode. In it, candidates will have to register and state their options for college and the course. Once the choice filling will end, seat allocation result will be displayed. Candidates who will be allocated seat in it will be required to accept it, within the due duration. When the deadline to claim the allocated seat will lapse, seat matrix for filled and vacant seat will be released for candidates seeking admission in next round of counselling.

In all, three rounds of JEE advanced counselling will be held. However, the fourth round of counselling will also be held but only for the admission into NITs, IIITs and Other GFTIs, i.e via JEE Main rank. The step by step procedure of the JEE Advance 2016 Counselling is explained below:

Online Registration: Firstly, candidates will have to register online, in the official JEE Advanced 2016 counselling portal. The portal will become functional . Candidates will have to register through the portal, else the seat will not be allocated to them during the counselling of JEE Advanced.

Online Filling of Choices: Candidates will have to enter the desired branch and institute in which they seek admission from 24th June 2016 to 28th June 2016. Candidates can add or delete, even rearrange, their choices as many times as they wish to and can also apply for multiple choices. Once the choices are filed candidates are supposed to lock their choices for JEE Advanced 2016. Candidates are advised to choose the maximum number of courses. For Mining Engineering and Mining Machinery Engineering courses, candidates will have to fulfil additional fitness criteria. Aspirants seeking admission in Petroleum Engineering courses, and M.Sc. Tech. in Applied Geology should not be suffering from colour blindness.

Note: Female candidates are not eligible for admission in ISM Dhanbad (Mining and Machinery Engineering courses).

Seat Allotment Result:  The seat allotment in JEE Advanced 2016 counselling will be done the basis of All India Rank of the candidate in the Advanced paper. It will be done in multiple rounds. Last year, three rounds of seat allotment were held.

Seat Allocation and Reporting: When the seats will be allocated, candidates will have to report at the authorised centre and claim it. To do so, candidates will have to get certain documents. List of these documents is given below.

 Documents Required for Verification

Candidates must carry one set of Attested Photocopies, of these documents, along the original copy. Documents required for verification during JEE Advanced 2016 counselling are as below:

  • Print out of course allotment letter
  • Admit Card of JEE Advanced 2016
  • Medical Certificate
  • Print out of Application Form
  • Certificates of class X and XII
  • Certificate of Birth
  • Certificate of Category (SC/ST/PwD/OBC)
  • Attested copy of Passport or any other equivalent Identity Proof
  • DD of Rs. 60000/-
  • For SC/ST DD is to be made of Rs. 20000/-

JEE Advanced 2016 Rank List

For intake of the qualifiers, during JEE Advanced counselling various rank lists will be prepared. Only on the basis of these ranks, admission will be granted to the candidates. IITs and ISM have also disclosed the minimum percentage and minimum marks, in each subject and overall, which candidates must secure to acquire a position in JEE Advanced rank list 2016. Candidates who have surpassed these minimum limit of marks and percentage will be allocated the rank. Candidates may check the minimum limit from the table below.

JEE Advanced 2016 Seat Allocation

In JEE Advanced counselling 2016 the seat will be allocated on the basis of rank but as per the reservation policy of the Government of India, which is as below:

  • OBC ( Non- Creamy Layer ): 27%
  • SC: 15%
  • ST: 7.5%
  • Person with disabilities (PwD): 3% from all categories including General Category
  • Two seats in every institute are reserved for defence/ paramilitary personnel killed or permanently disabled in action during war or peacetime operations (DS)

Note: To be eligible for DS category seats, candidates must be in the CRL to be eligible for the preferential allocation under the DS category. However, the DS candidates will also be eligible for seat allocation under their (birth) category.

IITs and ISM Seat Allocation For Foreign Nationals

To receive a seat in IITs and ISM, foreign national must be in the CRL and should fulfil all the required eligibility criteria, for the General Category candidates. Seats allocated to these candidates will be supernumerary, i.e. will be freshly generated as per the requirement. Also, these candidates will only be granted admission, if their rank is higher or equal to the closing rank, of the respective institute/ branch.

JoSAA 2016 Dual Reporting

Dual Reporting is the process of reporting twice, to switch seat allocated in one institute with the seat allocated in another one. Candidates will Dual Report when they will want to change the allotment from NIT  to an IIT/ ISM. Same has to be done by the candidates who wish to leave the seat in IIT/ISM, to confirm the seat allocated in NIT. He/she will also have to report again at the NIT Reporting Center. Candidates who will fail to do so will end up losing the seat in both NIT and IIT/ISM.
